Gianfelice Facchetti paid a touching tribute to his late father Giacinto to mark Italian Father’s Day on Friday.
Giacinto remains one of the greatest players in Inter’s history, making 639 appearances for the club between 1960 and 1978.
His son remembered him yesterday with a beautifully written message, which Inter linked to on Twitter along with a photo of the pair together at Appiano Gentile.
“There are photos like this which give you a sense of the history I’m part of, along with millions of black-and-blue hearts,” Gianfelice wrote.
“With you we became big, learning how to walk and to dream.
“We learned the meaning of difficult words such as ‘respect’ and ‘glory’.
“Like you always said, being an Interista is a distinctive sign which appears on the pitch but also affects your life as a whole.
“Sometimes you end up scoring and celebrating but whether or not you win, what matters is to be there as the best version of yourselves, never settling for anything just like today’s Inter.
“Here I am again then Dad, thanking you once again for making me become an Interista.”
Giacinto Facchetti won four Serie A titles as part of La Grande Inter during the 1960s and 1970s, along with two European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one Coppa Italia.
He passed away in September 2006 at the age of 64.
