Alexis Sanchez is ready to provide a decisive contribution to Inter in their Serie A title run-in, according to a report in the Italian media tonight.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport‘s online edition, Sanchez (and Lautaro Martinez) will be fresh and raring to go when the Nerazzurri return to action at Bologna on April 3, after South America’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers this week were postponed due to COVID-19.
The 32-year-old has made ‘a clear step up’ compared to his performances for the Nerazzurri last season, the report said, having scored five goals and five assists in Serie A.
With Inter facing three games in eight days (Bologna, Sassuolo and Cagliari) after the international break – and with Romelu Lukaku a booking from suspension – Conte will need to rely on Sanchez to deliver when he is called upon in the coming weeks.
Sanchez and Lautaro combined to devastating effect during Inter’s last game, with the Chilean crossing for El Toro to head in a late winner at Torino.
The former Manchester United striker arrived on a permanent deal amid doubts last summer, after Inter handed him a hefty three-year contract worth €7 million annually in wages.
Sanchez struggled to stay fit during his first season back in Italy, leading to an argument between Inter and Chile head coach Reinaldo Rueda over who was to blame for his physical problems.
His injury concerns appear to be a thing of the past though, with Conte telling reporters before Inter’s game at Parma on March 3 that Sanchez was in his best physical condition since joining the club in 2019.
Sanchez has scored four goals in his last three games and could even play with Lautaro and Romelu Lukaku during Inter’s run-in, perhaps playing as a no. 10 behind the two forwards.
