Inter were anything but lucky to have last Saturday’s Serie A fixture against Sassuolo postponed, a report in the Italian media explained today.
The Nerazzurri’s rivals were rumoured to be unhappy with the decision to call off the match at San Siro, following Inter’s COVID-19 outbreak in which four people tested positive.
As highlighted by La Repubblica’s print edition, however, those who thought Inter were fortunate to see Milan’s local health authority step in do not know what they are talking about.
Whereas Inter would have been facing a Sassuolo team last Saturday who had only played three days previously, away at Torino, that advantage has now disappeared – in fact, it might be Antonio Conte’s side who end up being more tired.
A report from Corriere dello Sport this morning said Inter’s match with Sassuolo would soon be officially rescheduled for April 7, placing the game four days after the Nerazzurri’s trip to Bologna.
This means Conte’s four players who tested positive for COVID-19 – Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino – will not have much time to shake off the virus before facing the Neroverdi.
In addition to this, Inter will also have had most of their first-choice XI involved in international action over the next week or so, putting them at risk of fatigue or injuries.
