Arturo Vidal has interest from three clubs ahead of this summer’s transfer window, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said Flamengo, Marseille and Galatasaray were all linked with the Inter midfielder, who has failed to meet expectations in his first season at San Siro.
Vidal’s salary at Inter is set to increase next season from €5 million annually to €6.5 million, which could incentivise the Nerazzurri to offload him this summer.
Inter would not need to get much of a fee to secure a capital gain on the 33-year-old, because Barcelona were happy to accept just a few add-ons to sell him last summer.
The problem with selling Vidal at the end of this season, the Rome-based publication explained, was that Inter would lose the tax benefits they have been using all year to reduce the cost of Vidal’s wages.
Should the Chilean leave Serie A before he has completed two years of work here, Inter would be forced to pay the tax relating to his wages for this season in full (as opposed to only 50%, as per Italy’s growth decree law).
Vidal has lost his place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI thanks to inconsistent performances and lots of niggling fitness problems, with Christian Eriksen taking over in midfield last month.
The former Juventus and Bayern Munich midfielder is hoping to return to action with Inter against either Sassuolo or Cagliari after the international break, having undergone surgery on his left knee two weeks ago.
