Inter’s players will never get a better chance than this season to win the Serie A title, former Nerazzurri boss Alberto Zaccheroni has warned.
Antonio Conte’s side are six points clear of second-placed AC Milan with 11 matches left, and Inter still have a game in hand as well (at home to Sassuolo on April 7).
AC Milan have not given up on overhauling their city rivals yet but Zaccheroni, who coached both teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s, cannot foresee a last-minute twist in the tail.
“I can’t see them catching Inter now,” he said in an interview with Rossoneri supporter Carlo Pellegatti on YouTube.
“Inter have the same kind of confidence that my AC Milan side had at the end of the season when we won the league (in 1999).
“You could have had hope with the Inter side from a few months ago, but now it’s more difficult; everyone is playing well now.
“They’re very strongly motivated and almost all their players have an opportunity of a lifetime (to win the Scudetto).
“AC Milan will fight until the end, they’re the team that plays Serie A’s best football along with Atalanta.
“Inter and AC Milan are the teams who’ve had the most consistency in terms of their starting XIs.”
Conte’s side will be back in action on April 3 when they visit Bologna for matchday 28 of the 2020-21 season.
Inter will be hoping their four players who tested positive for COVID-19 last week – Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino – recover in time for the trip to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
