Christian Eriksen produced a ‘positive’ performance last night as Denmark began their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with victory in Israel, according to a report in the Italian media.
The Inter midfielder played the full 90 minutes in Tel-Aviv as Kasper Hjulmand’s side secured a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals in either half from Martin Braithwaite and Jonas Wind.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Eriksen played as a no. 10 in Denmark’s 4-2-3-1 system in a match the visitors controlled from start to finish.
The 29-year-old made his 104th appearance for his country in the process, pulling level with Denmark legend Michael Laudrup.
Eriksen did not have much defensive work to do last night, the Milan-based paper reported, being handed freedom to move wherever he wanted as Denmark built their attacks.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player often dropped deep to get on the ball more and showed off a couple of impressive passes, including one 40-metre ball to pick out Yussuf Poulsen.
Eriksen also provided a nice cross for Thomas Delaney, whose header was kept out by Israel keeper Ofir Marciano.
