Inter are so in tune with Antonio Conte’s demands now they can play off by heart, according to a former Nerazzurri midfielder.

Conte has taken Inter six points clear of AC Milan at the top of the Serie A standings, and they still have a game in hand after last weekend’s match with Sassuolo was postponed.

Benoit Cauet spent four seasons playing for the Nerazzurri between 1997 and 2001 and is impressed by how Conte has gradually built a winning side.

Asked if Inter were ‘super favourites’ to win the Scudetto with 11 games left, Cauet told passionedelcalcio.it: “Absolutely, yes.

“Conte’s work and organisation are decisive, Inter began this journey last season.

“After finishing second in Serie A and losing the UEFA Europa League final, Inter have matured this year.

“They have their own style, they play off by heart.

“I repeat, they’re more determined than they were last season.”

Cauet, who helped Inter win the UEFA Cup with Gigi Simoni in 1998, also looked back on some of his favourite memories from his time at the club.

“Ronaldo was the best player I played with, he was devastating,” the Frenchman recalled.

“Zvonimir Boban was my toughest opponent, he was unstoppable.

“As for my favourite game at Inter, on an emotional level it’s something extraordinary to win an international competition.

“So the UEFA Cup final in 1998 against Lazio is the one I’d pick in first place.”

Cauet made 149 appearances in all competitions for Inter, scoring nine goals.

He also played for Torino and Como during his career in Italy and spent four years coaching in Inter’s academy after retirement.
