Valentino Lazaro’s career at Inter might not be finished just yet, according to a report in the Italian media today.

FcInterNews.it reported that Borussia Monchengladbach were having doubts about making the midfielder’s loan move permanent, which would cost them €12-13 million this summer.

Should Lazaro return to Inter at the end of the season, it is ‘difficult but not impossible’ that he could remain with the Nerazzurri for the 2021-22 campaign.

Lazaro remains in contact with Romelu Lukaku and head coach Antonio Conte and has continued learning Italian during the last couple of years.

Borussia Monchengladbach have yet to make a decision regarding the 25-year-old’s future, with Lazaro having made 20 appearances in all competitions for them this season.

His agents have also been unable to travel to Italy to meet with Inter’s directors, due to travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning everything is at a standstill for now.

Lazaro made 11 appearances for Inter during the first half of the 2019-20 season, having been signed for a reported €22 million from Hertha BSC.

He struggled to settle in under Conte however and joined Premier League side Newcastle United for six months during the January transfer window.
