Inter remain interested in signing Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool on a free transfer, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Calciomercato.com have revealed the Nerazzurri considered a move for Real Madrid full-back Lucas Vazquez last month, who like Wijnaldum is set to become a free agent in the summer.
Vazquez would have been the kind of zero-cost move Beppe Marotta has become renowned for between Juventus and Inter, but for now Inter have decided not to pursue the 29-year-old.
This is because they want to target a deal for Wijnaldum instead – although Barcelona will provide very strong competition for the Dutch midfielder, the report warned.
Vazquez has played 237 games for Real Madrid and won the UEFA Champions League with them three times.
Zinedine Zidane is hopeful the Spaniard will agree a contract extension but so far this has not seemed likely.
CM said Inter would be signed an experienced and versatile player in Vazquez, but it seems they have cast their eyes upon Wijnaldum instead.
