Stefano Sensi should use Christian Eriksen as a role model as the Italian tries to resurrect his Inter career, a report in the Italian media argued tonight.

FcInter1908.it said the Dane was ‘an example’ for the former Sassuolo midfielder to follow, with Eriksen finally winning over Antonio Conte after 12 months of precious little game time.

Sensi has played just 329 minutes of football all season for the Nerazzurri after another campaign which has been ravaged by injury concerns.

The midfielder is hoping to play a role in Inter’s Serie A title run-in after scoring for Italy in last night’s FIFA World Cup qualifying win in Lithuania.

Sensi’s injury problems began in October after he was sent off in a 1-1 draw at Lazio, causing him to miss a month of action (including the first Milan derby of the season against AC Milan).

The 25-year-old then suffered another setback in January after Conte picked him to start at Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia, pulling up in the warm-up with a suspected muscular issue.

Since returning to the Inter squad in mid-February, Sensi has been an unused substitute in seven games out of 14 and has played just 180 minutes in the other fixtures.

A further muscular fatigue problem then caused him to miss the wins over AC Milan (again) and Genoa, followed by three more no-shows against Parma, Atalanta and Torino.

Conte made a pointed decision to send on Matias Vecino – who hadn’t featured since last July after knee surgery – instead of Sensi against the Granata, seemingly sending a message to Sensi to tell him he needed to get his act together.

The Inter boss has alluded in the past to Sensi’s problems being psychological as well as physical, the report recalled, opting for a softer approach in public compared to his criticisms of Alexis Sanchez (which have paid dividends).

Sensi could be an excellent alternative to Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella in midfield, as well as Eriksen who has already resurrected his career at San Siro.

He still has a few months to turn things around for himself at Inter as Conte’s men chase the Serie A title.
