Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has shown that he offers more than just defensive solidity this season, having played a key role in many of the Nerazzurri’s attacks.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, data from Opta shows that Bastoni has begun the move for seven goals that Inter have scored this season, despite playing in defence, and no other player in Europe’s top five leagues can boast more.
Indeed, only German midfielders Toni Kroos and Leon Goretzka, of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively, have registered an equal tally to the 21-year-old.
Bastoni, who returned to Antonio Conte’s side for today’s 1-0 win over Cagliari after serving a suspension, provided an assist for Romelu Lukaku last weekend against Bologna with a fine delivery, whilst a magnificent cross-field pass set up Nicolo Barella against Juventus in January.
The defender joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and has scored three goals in 67 appearances for the Biscione.
