Inter are only nine points away from becoming Serie A champions for the first time since 2010, a report in the Italian media highlighted today.
Antonio Conte’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Spezia last night but moved closer to the Scudetto anyway, thanks to AC Milan’s defeat at home to Sassuolo.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition explained that Inter (who currently have 76 points) would be guaranteed the title with 85 points, meaning they need three wins (or two wins and three draws) from their final six games.
Neither AC Milan nor Juventus can reach 85 points now, while Atalanta can only match it by winning all their remaining matches – and Inter have the head-to-head advantage over Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.
Inter were frustrated at the Stadio Alberto Picco but at least kept their unbeaten run going, with Ivan Perisic cancelling out Diego Farias’ early opener for Spezia.
Conte’s side will look to take another stride towards the title when they welcome Hellas Verona to San Siro.
