Inter’s former president Massimo Moratti has sung the praises of head coach Antonio Conte and ruled out a return to the club.
The Nerazzurri are just five points away from securing the Serie A title following yesterday’s 1-0 win at home to Hellas Verona.
Moratti was still president the last time Inter won the scudetto in 2010, but he seems fairly confident the wait is nearly over.
“It’s been a while, winning the title would help Inter maintain their international standing,” Moratti, who sold Inter to Erick Thohir in 2013, told Radio Marte today.
“I can’t talk about how many points are left because of superstition, but it looks as if the team really is in a very positive situation.
“Conte has done very well, he’s created a style of play which has made Inter a brilliant team that is suited to playing in Serie A.
“He joined the club as an ex-Juventino but he’s an impeccable professional who is very good at his job.
“Conte has brought results which are never easy to achieve.”
Moratti was asked again about the possibility of him returning to Inter, as owners Suning continue to battle the club’s financial problems.
He was very clear on the matter though, replying: “No, I hope Steven Zhang solves the club’s issues with flying colours.”
Moratti also shared his thoughts on the failed European Super League project and revealed he had the chance to take Inter into such an agreement several years ago.
“I was offered the same thing and I declined,” he recalled.
“The current proposal came about because several clubs have a strong need to sort out their accounts.
“It was the wrong moment to put forward such a project though and it fell flat.”
Inter were one of nine clubs to pull out of the Super League agreement last week after the project was condemned by fans, players, politicians and rival clubs.
