Milan Skriniar is still struggling to come to terms with the fact he is a Serie A champion with Inter.

The Nerazzurri were confirmed as champions for the 19th time in their history on Sunday, after they beat Crotone and Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw at Sassuolo.

Skriniar was one of Inter’s most important players en route to the Scudetto, having regained his place in the side after falling out of favour last season.

“It’s surreal, definitely the best achievement of my career so far,” the defender admitted in an interview for the Slovakian FA’s official website.

“Perhaps I don’t even realise yet what’s happened, I’m happy and it’s fantastic.

“The first feelings I’m having are really incredible, I’m very happy we’ve managed to do something like this but credit goes to the whole club.

“We worked hard even though our season wasn’t perfect; after we were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and Coppa Italia we’re happy to have dominated the league.”

Skriniar admits nobody at Inter was expecting to celebrate the title on Sunday, despite their 2-0 victory at the Stadio Ezio Scida the night before.

“The coach gave us time off after the last match, everyone went to spend time with their families,” the 26-year-old explained.

“We didn’t expect to become champions as early as Sunday, we were thinking about the next match against Sampdoria.

“I can’t wait for everyone to celebrate and be joyous together; the only thing we’re disappointed about is to not be able to celebrate the title with our fans.

“Having San Siro full for that would be fantastic.”

Skriniar also touched on the incident which saw him take an elbow to the face last weekend, but he managed to see the funny side.

“I took an elbow to my eyebrow and I have five stitches there,” he admitted.

“My eye is swollen and I look like a pirate…”

Skriniar can now begin to concentrate on helping Slovakia succeed at this summer’s European Championships.
