Inter goalkeeper Andrei Radu was pleased to have featured in today’s 5-1 defeat of Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A.
The Romanian came off the bench at the start of the second half to make his first league appearance for Inter since May 2016 and kept the Blucerchiati’s attack at bay, as coach Antonio Conte made changes to his team following the clinching of the Scudetto last week.
In an interview with InterTV after the match, Radu admitted that he had been waiting patiently for an opportunity and was grateful to be able to work with so many elite level players at the club.
“It hasn’t been bad at all this year I would say. I have been waiting for a moment like this for a long time, I am among so many champions, I work to be like them,” the 23-year-old declared.
Radu pointed to fellow goalkeepers Samir Handanovic and Daniele Padelli as figures who have helped him develop this season, as well as the coaching staff at Inter.
“I feel much improved in general. I was inspired by their aggression, especially psychologically, which is essential at this level. The work of the staff is also fundamental.”
The goalkeeper admitted that whilst he was not told he would be replacing Handanovic at half time, he had a feeling that he would see some action in the match.
“I knew but also did not know of my appearance. Something was in the air, I have always been ready. I grew up over these eight years with Inter and hope other opportunities will come,” he continued.
Inter secured the title last weekend after Atalanta could only manage a 1-1 draw against Sassuolo, and Radu revealed how he witnessed the Nerazzurri make history.
“I was watching the Atalanta match with my girlfriend, we celebrated together,” he added.
