Inter ‘shouldn’t find it too difficult’ to reach an agreement with their players to ease the club’s financial problems, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Nerazzurri president Steven Zhang met the first-team squad at Appiano Gentile this afternoon and reportedly asked everyone to give up two months’ wages.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition (in a report published before Zhang met the players), Inter’s players have no intention of agreeing the pay cut but they are open to a different sort of agreement.
Suning’s plan B (if the two-month pay cut is rejected) is to renegotiate everyone’s contracts on an individual basis, and this is not expected to be difficult.
Inter’s owners need to ease the pressure on their accounts for the current financial year (ending on June 30), so they will seek an agreement that defers some of their players’ salary payments further.
The squad will still receive all the money they are due but it will be paid to them over a longer time frame, although the report didn’t offer further details.
Inter’s finances have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has prevented fans from attending matches in Italy for more than a year now.
