Inter president Steven Zhang will begin discussing wage cuts with his players today, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Zhang and Inter’s directors will be at Appiano Gentile today to begin individual discussions with players, who will be asked to give up two months’ wages.

Zhang will have one-on-one meetings with each member of the dressing room and is expected to complete his discussions on Thursday, after Inter’s midweek match with Roma.

Inter’s players would save the club €25 million if they agreed to give up the wage payments, which are for November and December 2020, giving Suning a boost in their bid to stabilise the club’s finances.

According to this report, an alternative to agreeing wage cuts – if the players do not agree to that – would be to arrange ‘individual contract modifications’, and this shouldn’t be too difficult to agree.

However, if Inter are to do this, they will need to distinguish between those players who are out of contract in the summer, those about to renew and those already committed long-term.

Inter’s players are not pleased that the speculation has been leaked to the media, because they would have preferred to negotiate in silence and then communicate things at the end.
