Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku’s futures at Inter are in serious doubt, according to a report in the Italian media tonight.

FcInterNews.it have published an article which dramatically claims the Nerazzurri are facing ‘an alarming situation’ after Steven Zhang’s visit to Appiano Gentile on Monday.

Zhang was expected to request a wage cut from Inter’s players and he did just that, but he disappointed everyone by not offering any sort of vision for the coming weeks and months.

In addition to the players, Zhang also asked every director and employee at the club to make a similar financial sacrifice.

Following today’s meeting, the report claims that lots of Inter players are considering their futures, including those who didn’t expect to be going anywhere.

Lukaku was cited as one of these players, after Manchester City stepped up their pursuit of the striker earlier, while Alessandro Bastoni’s new contract remains on standby for now.

Conte is another person considering his future, because he expected a ‘decidedly different’ strategy from Suning, and he could therefore be reluctantly forced to leave Milan after two seasons in charge.

FCIN’s report said it was no coincidence that Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Inter’s match against Roma had been cancelled.

Inter’s players and staff are also said to be uneasy that Suning continue to show no intention of selling the club, despite having received ‘several offers’ lately to purchase a majority stake.

The reality, the report said, is that everyone is being asked to live by the day with no guarantees about what will happen further down the line.

It remains to be seen just how much substance there is to the claims made in this article, and how much is fanciful speculation.
