Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini argued that Antonio Conte was more concerned with the performance of his team in their 3-2 defeat to Juventus, rather than that of referee Gianpaolo Calvarese.
The Serie A champions fell to a controversial defeat to their bitter rivals at the Allianz Stadium this afternoon, with the Bianconeri scoring from the penalty spot late on from Juan Cuadradro, to settle the Derby d’Italia, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo earlier missed a spot kick.
Inter were also awarded a first half penalty, whilst Nerazzurri midfielder Marcelo Brozovic followed Juventus counterpart Rodrigo Bentancur in receiving a red card.
Speaking in the post-match press conference on behalf of coach Conte, as reported by FCInterNews.it, Stellini argued that they were only concerning themselves with Inter’s performance.
“I don’t know if Conte is angry with the referee, but I don’t think so since we were more interested in our own performance,” Stellini claimed.
“The incidents are there for everyone to see and I think they speak for themselves, it’s not up to me to examine the referee’s decisions. It is right that the images speak for themselves, everyone has seen them and will make their own opinion, whoever is responsible will eventually judge it.”
The Nerazzurri fell to a first defeat in Serie A since early January, and Stellini felt that the team were lacking in attacking threat.
“Inter missed the final thrust, today we lacked the ability to finish off the few opportunities that were there. We had to take them better.
“Although we had in numerical advantage, it was still a difficult game. We were playing against an excellent team that wanted to get a result and tightened up around their penalty area.
“It is not easy to create many chances in such situations. We created three or four, one awarded by VAR, one disallowed, and with Barella and Vecino coming close.
“We could have been better but it’s never easy. We are satisfied with the performance of the guys. We wanted to come here and show that we want to take home the victory and to prove that we are the team ahead of everyone in the table. We are satisfied with what we have done,” he added.
