Antonio Conte is desperate for Inter to keep hold of Lautaro Martinez, according to a report from a leading Italian broadcaster today.

Sport Mediaset (via FcInter1908.it) said Inter’s head coach had urged the club to ‘do everything’ to keep big players such as El Toro this summer.

Conte is potentially prepared to accept a contract renewal with a reduced salary, in order to help Inter tackle their serious economic problems.

However, he first wants reassurance from Steven Zhang over what is likely to happen in the upcoming transfer window.

Zhang is set for a very important week, with Inter’s president closing on the €300 million financing deal he needs to ease the club’s short-term financial concerns.

After that is sorted, he is expected to hold face-to-face talks with Conte, who wants to stay but only under certain conditions.

Conte does not want to break up his exceptional strike partnership formed by Lautaro and Romelu Lukaku, the report added, which has led Inter to this season’s Serie A title.
