Antonio Conte will accept reduced ambitions at Inter if Suning explain their intentions in public, according to a report in the Italian media this evening.

As per FcInterNews.it, Steven Zhang cannot offer Conte too much reassurance at present about Inter’s sporting project, with so many variables up in the air and so much financial hardship at the club.

Conte is unlikely to be granted his wish of signing reinforcements ahead of next season’s UEFA Champions League, but he would accept a less ambitious project as long as everyone knew that was the scenario.

Inter’s boss would want Suning to make a public admission in that sense, making it clear that plans are changing and that the coaching staff and players are not expected to win things.

Conte began a three-year project with Inter in 2019 and the next logical step after this season’s Scudetto triumph would be to try and succeed in Europe.

But Inter are not in a position to spend too much in the transfer window, which means the squad is unlikely to be upgraded for next season.

Conte does not want to find himself in the same position as this year, where he had a huge burden of responsibility on his shoulders (to win the title) despite Suning being unable to strengthen last summer.

He also does not want to have to deal with concerns from his players like he did this season, due to Inter’s off-field turmoil in the second half of the campaign.

There is no certainty yet over when Conte and Zhang will meet, with some sources claiming it was due to happen at 18:00 CET today while others insisted it was scheduled for tomorrow.

Inter do not want everything to play out in public like it did last summer at Villa Bellini, so the location and timing of the meeting is being kept top secret.
