Lazio fan group Curva Nord have released a statement after Simone Inzaghi’s departure for Inter.

Inzaghi had seemed set to sign a new contract with Lazio to extend his time as coach of the Biancocelesti, but he was swayed at the last moment when Inter made contact.

Instead, Inzaghi will replace Antonio Conte who resigned after a disagreement with the board over finances.

In an Instagram story, the emphasis is on the amount of time Inzaghi has spent as part of the Lazio family, as both a player and a coach.

“Twenty-two years with Lazio’s eagle on his chest, first as a player, then as a coach. You have won a lot, you have suffered and rejoiced with us, you have always spoken as a fan and not as a simple technician.”

Lazio’s official statement was notably short in comparison to that of the Curva Nord, who seem more accepting of Inzaghi’s decision.

“You have shown attachment to the shirt, to our history. With pride and a spirit of belonging, but above all with respect.

“For this, we thank you, for all these years lived together and also for this we could never contest your choice.”

Inzaghi has been in charge of Lazio since 2016, overseeing 251 matches at the helm. He has won two Suppercopa Italiana’s for the club and guided them back to the Champions League against the odds.

He also scored 28 goals for the club as a player, from 133 appearances.
