Antonio Conte has parted ways with Inter Milan following a successful season that saw Inter Milan crowned as Champions for the first time since 2011.
He has brought in several key players including Romelu Lukaku but what is next for the Italian, and will he take any players with him?
It’s not the ending fans were wanting, although Conte has had his share of controversies at the club, he has led them to the Serie A.
He has become a serial winner by claiming trophies across the continent and is arguably one of the best managers in the world right now. He does, however, demand control. If he doesn’t have that, then he leaves as was the case with Chelsea and now Inter.
So, where next? Some of the best betting sites such as Paddy Power and Betfair have him as the favourite to take over the hot seat at Real Madrid with odds as low as 1.53. He was also fancied to fill the void at Tottenham Hotspurs, but with rumours of Mauricio Pochettino returning to London has drifted out to 9.0.
The question for Inter fans is who will take with him, and does it depend on where he ends up?
If we look at Spurs Conte would be good for the club as he has proved he can win trophies. In saying that, it is well known that Daniel Levy pulls the strings and it’s hard to see Conte fit that mould.
One of the main reasons for Conte leaving Inter was the club’s intention to sell around €80 million worth of players, including Lautaro Martinez.
He has been instrumental in the title charge this season as the stats show netting 17 goals and assisting six others throughout the campaign.
It’s understandable that he would want to keep him. With Spurs set to lose Harry Kane this summer then Martinez could be the ideal replacement.
It has been reported, however, that the Argentinean forward may already have selected his next club. Rumours are that he is heading for Spain with Atletico Madrid the front runners to land his signature.
The Real Madrid position seemed like the most realistic next step for the Italian coach. Conte would have had a decent budget and may even be keen to hold on to expensive stars such as Eden Hazard.
But, as we mentioned before, he likes things his own way. Madrid have struggled in the past few seasons and drama off the pitch haven’t helped matters. He will want players he can trust around him, and Martinez has shown that he is a player that he can rely on.
However, Real Madrid opted to re-appoint another Italian coach, namely Carlo Ancelotti firmly closing the door on that option.
Other high-profile players could look for the exit door. Achraf Hakimi has enjoyed an excellent season at Wing-Back so it’s no surprise he is high on the list of several top clubs across Europe including PSG. Again, he is someone Conte may look to in order to maintain his style of play.
Much has also been said about star forward Romelu Lukaku. Inter have outright said that the Belgian is not for sale, but in a time of poor financial health, you get the feeling that if the right offer comes in – he could go.
If the player wants to go too then it’s almost impossible to keep him. Lukaku might be tempted to go to with Conte, wherever that may be, but for now, he looks set to stay.
