Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal finds himself in the middle of a COVID-19 scandal whilst on national team duty with the Chilean national team in the ongoing Copa America tournament in Brazil.
The former Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Juventus midfielder has together with former Inter midfielder Gary Medel violated the COVID-19 bubble imposed by CONMEBOL, according to La Tercera.
According to the report, the players brought in a hairdresser or barber to fix their hair and this is a violation of the COVID-19 rules put in place.
The Chilean FA released a statement confirming that the COVID-19 rules had been violated after an “unauthorized entry by a hairdresser” and that the people involved will be fined, without naming the players involved in the incident.
The official statement comes after media outlets in South America reported that Arturo Vidal, Gary Medel, Pablo Aránguiz, Eduardo Vargas, Jean Meneses, Guillermo Maripán and Pablo Galdames had broken COVID-19 rules by bringing back prostitutes back to their hotel.
Other reports claimed that the Chilean National team coach Martin Lasarte was considering resigning over this scandal, but neither of these claims (specifically concerning prostitutes and Lasarte resigning) have been confirmed by the Chilean FA at the time of publication of this article.
A press conference is expected to be held in the coming hours to shed further light on the matter.
