Inter are set to begin contract extension discussions with Nicolo Barella and his people once he returns from Euro 2020, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, Inter are fully aware that the current contract that Nicolo Barella has is no longer representative of his importance to the team.

The man from Cagliari currently earns €2.5 million a year but it is widely recognised now that the 24-year-old is one of the best midfielders in world football. If Inter were to drag their heels over offering him a new deal, there will certainly be a long list of clubs looking to buy him.

Part of the contract negotiations could include promising Nicolo Barella that he will be the captain of Inter in the very near future, as well as being on a much higher wage.

Despite Inter’s need to cut the wage bill, this deal is too important to drag out.
