Cagliari Sporting Director Stefano Capozucca has clarified the situation regarding the proposed transfer of Radja Nainggolan from Inter to the Rossoblu.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, the Sporting Director explained that the Belgian midfielder could move to the Sardinian club but that he has yet to agree on a severance payment with the Nerazzurri.

Nainggolan spent the second half of last season on loan in Sardinia, and it is thought that the player would like a permanent stay, with the club also hoping to keep him.

Inter, meanwhile, would be happy to part ways with the 33-year-old, in order to get the wages from the final season of his contract off of their balance sheet.

Talks for the player’s transfer on a permanent basis have been ongoing, but it is thought that a remaining sticking point is the player’s desire for a severance payment from the Nerazzurri, which has still not seen an agreement with the club.

Asked about the status of discussions over the sale of the player, Capozucca stated:

“We can see that talks for Nainggolan are not currently developing, so there is too little to say here.”

When asked whether the issue is that the player will not depart from Inter without first receiving severance pay, the Director replied simply, “Exactly.”

Capozucca was then asked about talks over young Nerazzurri players in addition to Nainggolan, and he said:

“No, but now it is useless to talk about it. The problem is to see whether  Nainggolan situation is resolved. If this is not the case, I am sure that Radja, who is a really important player, will have no problem finding other solutions.”

He then confirmed that the priority is on finding a solution to the Nainggolan transfer, and that other discussions can come later.
