Christian Eriksen is set to return to Milan for the first time since his on-pitch cardiac arrest at the Euros this week.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that further decisions can be made about the Dane’s future after he has interactions with the club’s medical staff.
One month has passed since the unexpected health scare experienced by the Dane during his country’s EURO 2020 opener against Finland, where he collapsed from what was determined to be a cardiac arrhythmia.
The player spent some time at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen for tests and observation before being discharged, and has since been recovering with his family at home.
It is thought that the player is not sufficiently rested and ready to come to Milan to visit with club staff, although the final decision will be entirely based on the player’s wishes.
The 29-year-old will have similar tests performed on him by the club’s medical staff as those performed by the staff at the Rigshospitalet, who the Nerazzurri medical team have been in regular contact with.
Aside from more broadly ascertaining the player’s condition, a key aim of these tests will be to establish whether or not the ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) which he is currently fitted with can be removed or will have to be permanent.
Should the device be determined to be necessary on a permanent basis rather than temporary, then Italian medical regulations would prevent the player from taking the pitch for the Nerazzurri.
For now, however, the priority at the club will be to reconnect with Eriksen as a friend and to make him feel welcome in the city and among the club.
