Inter have offered striker Lautaro Martinez a contract extension worth a net of €5 million per season, but the player is hoping for a larger salary increase.
This according to Italian news outlet L’Interista, who report that the Argentine striker is considering his options, and is in no hurry to accept the proposed extension currently being offered by the Nerazzurri.
Martinez is considered to be a top player and has attracted the interest of a number of top European clubs, but the Nerazzurri are hoping to secure his future with a contract extension.
The 23-year-old’s current deal runs until the end of June 2023, and the club hope to go beyond this, proposing a five year deal which wouldn’t expire until the summer of 2026.
The terms of the deal include a salary increase to around a net of €5 million per season, a significant increase from just over €2 million net which he earns on his current deal.
The increase is meant to correlate with and reward the qualities of the striker’s performance, and to keep him happy at the club amid interest from elsewhere.
However, while the player and his agent Alejandro Camano are aware of the offer, they have not yet given their response, and are waiting until the end of the summer so that they can consider offers from elsewhere with Spanish giants Real and Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona thought to be interested in the player, as well as English sides Manchester City and Chelsea.
The player is currently thought to hope for a higher salary increase than the one currently offered by the Nerazzurri before he accepts a renewal on his contract.
