New Inter head coach intends to make midfielder Nicolo Barella the basis for his Inter side going into next season and beyond.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the 24-year-old is a player who the new manager can’t wait to work with when they link up in training.

Barella has gained much favourable attention for his performances with Italy at the Euros, helping the Azzurri lift the trophy, their first major international tournament win since the World Cup in 2006.

The form that the young midfielder showed at the tournament reprises his impressive form at club level, with the player having been essential to Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-winning side last season.

Now, Conte’s successor hopes that he can continue on in this manner, with the coach already thinking of new signing Hakan Calhanoglu as having a potentially similar role to that of Luis Alberto at Lazio, but marking out Barella as the key all-round player in his midfield.
