The reason why Dalbert started for Inter against FC Lugano despite seemingly about to join Cagliari is that Simone Inzaghi has so few players available to him right now, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport today, the various international tournaments that have happened this summer meant that Simone Inzaghi was forced to field players that he knows will not be part of the Inter project.

The most notable of these players was Brazilian left-back Dalbert. His loan move to Cagliari with a redemption fee of €7 million is all but official now, yet he started the game against FC Lugano yesterday.

This is because players involvement in Euro 2020 and Copa America this summer has seriously lightened Simone Inzaghi’s squad. Players from those tournaments are now on holiday and will start to return in stages depending on when their nations got knocked out.
