Inter could sell striker Lautaro Martinez this summer, with the player’s contract extension talks not progressing well and Arsenal being interested in signing him.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that the Argentinian striker is yet to agree a contract extension and the Nerazzurri are considering selling him and replacing him with Lazio’s Joaquin Correa should the right offer come along.

Martinez’s contract is set to run until the end of June 2023, and the Nerazzurri are mindful of the situation and not wanting to let it run on too long without clarifying his future.

The 23-year-old had been set to sign an extension in February, but after changing agents talks haven’t taken off.

It is now unsure how straightforward it will be for the Nerazzurri to renew with the player, who is a target for a number of top clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Arsenal have emerged among the Argentine’s suitors, approaching Inter to inquire about his availability, although the Gunners have not yet been very defined about any proposals for the striker.

However, the English side are not the only club who could move for Martinez, and Inter will be aware of the problems that could arise if wealthy suitors find that he is available next summer with only one year left on his contract.

The club’s priority is still to keep the Argentine on for next season, and to continue pursuing an agreement on a new deal, but they could also look to move him on for a large fee and bring in a replacement.

Lazio striker Joaquin Correa has been identified as a top target to replace Martinez should the 23-year-old depart.

The 26-year-old Argentine, formerly of Sampdoria and Sevilla, enjoyed a good working relationship with new Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi while playing under him for the Biancocelesti, and the Italian tactician would enjoy the chance to have the player at his disposal again.

For the time being, this is only a possibility and no concrete offers have arrived which could seriously unsettle Martinez at the Giuseppe Meazza, but should a situation arise where the striker departs suddenly, the Nerazzurri have a plan in place to replace him.
