Ex-Inter Striker Roberto Boninsegna: “Edin Dzeko Has A Healthy Selfishness”

An ex-Inter striker has had his say on the latest forward to arrive at Inter, Edin Dzeko, who he believes will bring a lot of positives to the Inter attack, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roberto Boninsegna explained the elements of Edin Dzeko’s game that make him a positive signing despite losing a player of Romelu Lukaku’s brilliance.

Something that Roberto Boninsegna is keen to stress is that the age of Edin Dzeko is not what fans should focus on. It is his quality on the ball and his lethal finishing.

“Do not look at the age, but the player. He is someone who engages the defender, makes him sweat. Basically, he does everything: there aren’t many like them.”

Another interesting observation that Roberto Boninsegna makes is that Edin Dzeko has a level of selfishness that all the best strikers have. This is one element of the game that he feels Romelu Lukaku was missing as he would often try to bring Lautaro Martinez into the game.

“Sometimes when he [Romelu Lukaku] insisted on looking for Lautaro he was even too selfless to be a centre forward. I don’t see a defect in Dzeko, on the other hand: he has a bit of healthy selfishness.”
