Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is close to agreeing a new contract with the club, and is expected to become the top player at the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that following the departure of Romelu Lukaku the Argentine will be the main reference point in attack and that his new deal will reflect this.

The Nerazzurri have been working on finding an agreement on a new deal with Martinez, whose current contract runs out at the end of June 2023, and they look close to an agreement.

The club could settle on a deal worth a net of €6 million per season, close to the €7 million asked for by the player and his agent, and could extend his deal to 2025 or 2026.

After continuous improvement during his three seasons with the club, culminating in helping the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto last season and his country to the Copa America over the summer, Martinez is expected to take up the mantle of the main striker and show his ability to lead the team over the coming seasons, with the club showing faith in him.
