Ex-Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic has been discussing the relationship he had with ex-Inter owner and chairman Massimo Moratti, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during the documentary about Massimo Moratti that was recently produced by DAZN, with quotes reported by FCInter1908, the Serbian legend explained the meeting that the pair had when he extended his Inter contract.

“When I extended the contract I went to him, we had the usual coffee and cigarettes. It wasn’t nice, but if we talk about real things, it makes us understand that he was the president.

“We talked about football, everything, private things, of families, he takes his pen and writes four years on a white sheet and puts MM and passes me the sheet and asks me: okay?

“Without looking at the sheet, I put it in my pocket and tell him: it’s fine president.”

At the end of the segment, Dejan Stankovic explained how everything that Massimo Moratti did had an element of emotion and care to it, which was appreciated by the players and everyone at the club.

“Moratti did all things with his heart in his hand, the figures did not change anything. His gesture, his love for his players and the shirt was incredible.”

Dejan Stankovic made 231 appearances for the Nerazzurri between 2004 and 2013. He is regarded as one of the most underrated midfielders of his generation. He also played for Lazio in Italy, having started his career at Red Star Belgrade.

That is the club that he is now the manager of, and he has been in charge since 2019.
