The representatives of 13 different European Leagues, including Serie A, were part of an emergency meeting last night to reject FIFA’s plans to have the World Cup every two years, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Repubblica, the emergency meeting in Nyon, Switzerland, was attended by representatives from leagues such as the English Premier League, the Bundesliga, and Serie A.

The message was a complete and utter rejection of FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s plans to make the FIFA World Cup be held every two years rather than every four years as has been the case for decades.

Having the World Cup every two years would add even more levels of stress and confusion onto the footballing calendar and is viewed by many as a money-making scheme.

It will also cheapen the excitement of the tournament which fans normally have to wait a long time to be a part of.
