It has been an eventful transfer window for Inter Milan. Still, when taking a closer look into the power rankings of the Serie A summer exits and signings, the Nerazzurri have recovered from a seemingly devastating set of departures that included star striker Romelu Lukaku and title-winning manager, Antonio Conte.
Join us in previewing Inter Milan’s transfer recovery, which took some fast thinking and expert recruitment skills.
Inter Milan’s initial transfer window seemed to be filled with broken glass that could severely jeopardise their season ahead.
However, the regrouping and recouping have seen them recover nicely despite losing Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, and coach Antonio Conte.
The arrival of such a skilled and intelligent manager like Simone Inzaghi softened the blow of Conte’s departure, and his squad is now equipped with players capable of defending their 2020/21 Serie A title.
The likes of Joaquin Correa, Denzel Dumfries, Edin Dzeko, and Hakan Calhanoglu have assisted in keeping the elite level of Inters club intact.
Departures: Lukaku, Hakimi, Young, Joao Mario, and Nainggolan.
Arrivals: Correa, Dzeko, Dumfries, and Calhanoglu.
The Nerazzurri’s Transfer Targets Were Met
In a remarkable recovery, Inter Milan overachieved in reaching their target during the transfer market, profiting a comfortable €120 million and slicing their wage bill by €25 million.
The President of the club, Steven Zhang, sent out a warning following Inters Scudetto achievements to highlight the drastic financial situation that the Nerazzurri were in.
Zhang’s main transfer window goals were to achieve a minimum of €40 million profit and reduce salaries by 15-20%.
The sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, Achraf Hakimi to PSG, and €10 million in add-ons saw those financial worries disappear – as a whooping €185 million was quickly generated.
Additional revenue stemmed from Matteo Politano’s obligation to buy from Napoli at €19 million and Sampdoria’s purchasing Antonio Candreva for €2.5 million.
When including all Inters sales and the deals made to sign new players, profits of €120 million were generated from fees alone!
The wage bill cut also helped, removing €25 million in wages despite paying out specific contracts. Manager Antonio Conte took a termination which saved €13 million per season, but a contract clause cost them €7.5 million to release him.
A significant amount of money was saved by terminating contracts that stemmed from mutual consent, like Radja Nainggolan and Ashley Young.
The slight drama came from the termination of Joao Mario while Valentino Lazaro and Henrique Dalbert were loaned out.
Farewell Romelu Lukaku
Belgium international claimed his departure from Inter Milan was based on his love for Chelsea. But the most practical reasoning behind his retreat is most likely based on his price tag.
“I was only going to leave Inter Milan for Chelsea,” Lukaku told SkySports.
“Kids love Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United. And Chelsea, for me, everyone knows what Chelsea means to me.
“If they ask me, why would I say no?”
“I only realised that Chelsea was serious at the third offer. So, it was €100 million, then it was €105 million, and then it went to €110 million. Then I knew this is truly serious.”
I believe that Inter Milan was relatively happier about these offers, more so than Lukaku. Sure, I do not doubt that he’s delighted returning to Stamford Bridge, but given Inters financial distress, Lukaku staying in Milan wasn’t a viable option.
Were only two fixtures into the 2021/22 Serie A season, but Inter Milan’s goal-scoring problems seem non-existent. Two games and seven goals scored, Lukaku, who?
Bettors making wagers with their favourite online sports betting sites should be confident in the Nerazzurri’s abilities this season.
Let’s be transparent, replacing the Serie A and Belgium top goal scorer isn’t likely, but Inters overall goal-scoring opportunities have opened.
The newly signed forwards have made the Inter Milan frontline even stronger. Their playing style has changed with the arrival of Inzaghi, and this squad can undoubtedly succeed versus their fellow title challengers in Juve, Roma, Napoli, and Lazio.
Lukaku was Inters top goal scorer last term, but you can’t help but feel the correct decisions were made when signing Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa, especially under the wing of Simone Inzaghi.
The Future of Inter Milan
This week, Shamrock Rovers of Ireland’s Premier Division confirmed 16-year-old midfielder Kevin Zefi to Inter Milan.
Dublin-born Zefi has caught all the attention of European scouts, and following a breakout season with Shamrock Rovers, he’ll now be sporting the blue and black of Inter Milan.
As the youngest goalscorer in Ireland’s history, Juventus and PSV Eindhoven became interested in signing this young star. Still, to cap off a great summer, Inter Milan won the race.
The winger’s noticeable attributes are his speed, natural flair on the ball and a keen eye for goal. Most 16-year-old teenagers would find it daunting at the San Siro. Still, already knowing the language and having travelled to the Nerazzurri earlier this year, the youngster is confident in his move.
