Former Inter midfielder Benoit Caudet believes that the biggest threat that Inter will face in this evening’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid will come in the form of Real striker Karim Benzema.
Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the 52-year-old gave his views on how the match could go as well as the overall chance that his former club have of getting through to the knockout rounds of the competition this season.
Inter will know that they face a strong side in the form of the La Liga leaders, especially in attack, with the Merengues having scored five goals in their last league outing against Celta Vigo.
Benzema remains one of the Merengues’ most potent attacking weapons, and Couet believes that he is as dangerous as he has ever been and that the Nerazzurri will have to take the threat posed by the experienced Frenchman seriously.
“Benzema is going through a very strong period. In the last season of the Champions League he scored a hat-trick and needs to be given great attention. He is a unique striker, he will give the Nerazzurri defenders a hard time,” said Caouet.
On the Nerazzurri’s chances of progressing past the group stage this season, he said that “Compared to last year, they have more experience and consequently a better chance of getting to where they want to be.”
“Not as much as experience as Real necessarily,” he went on, “but still an important understanding. You always learn from previous years and for this reason Inter will have the basis that will allow them to better evaluate matches and opponents.”
