Former Inter midfielder Borja Valero believes that defender Milan Skriniar is currently showing his full potential as a goal threat this season after the Slovak scored his second of the season yesterday against Bologna.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri routed the Rossoblu 6-1 in their fourth Serie A match of the season, the Spaniard explained that Skriniar was not always considered to be a major weapon from set pieces.

Valero and Skriniar joined the Nerazzurri in the same summer, that of 2017, from Fiorentina and Sampdoria respectively, and they bedded into the team together under then-coach Luciano Spalletti.

Valero is now retired after a second stint at La Viola, while Skriniar is a fixture in the team now more than ever and a defending Scudetto-winner.

The former midfielder spoke about his time training with the Slovakia international, after he scored the Nerazzurri’s second goal in yesterday’s emphatic win on the half-hour mark from a Federico Dimarco corner.

“Joking in training years ago we told him not to go forward because he would not have scored anyway,” Valero reminisced. “This year he is unleashed, he has already scored two goals and is a big danger – it is an important improvement for him.”
