Ex-Nerazzurri Sporting Director Marco Branca: “Inter Have Replaced The Departing Players Really Well”

Former Inter Sporting Director Marco Branca believes that his former club have done a good job of accounting for the losses on the pitch over the summer.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Fiorentina.it, Branca gave a positive appraisal of his former club’s summer transfer business after losing two key men, while also giving his predictions for this evening’s match bewteeen the Nerazzurri and Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The departures of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku were important to the Nerazzurri’s strict financial goals over the summer, but both player’s sales undeniably carried the risk of seriously harming the team’s ambitions on the pitch.

However, the club went to work in finding players who could fill the void left by the two Scudetto-winners, and in the first few matches of this season they appear to have found a new rhythm without the pair.

The former director stated of matches between Inter and La Viola, “Traditionally they have been very tight matches and with some discussions after the fact, this as far as I remember in my experience as a Nerazzurri Sporting Director.”

“It will be a match with a good rhythm,” he went on, “because Inter are strong and have many good options on the bench – they have replaced those who started in the best way, considering the technical and economic aspect.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s opponents he said, “Fiorentina for their part have enthusiasm and want to show off, they will have studied the last match against Bologna well and therefore will try to make as few mistakes as possible. Fiorentina now have the conviction that if they play in a certain way they can also win.”

Of previous clashes between the two clubs, Branca recalled, “I remember a draw which had a fantastic save by Julio Cesar in the year of the Treble, which nearly cost us the title, but luckily we recovered.”
