Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has suggested that Atalanta cannot compete with the three teams that currently sit at the top of Serie A, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, as reported by L’Interista, the manager explained that his team will not be able to keep chase with Napoli, AC Milan, and Inter and should start to focus on the teams that they will be battling directly with such as Torino and Fiorentina.

“There have been five matches, but the value is already well defined. Inter, AC Milan and Napoli certainly have something more. It is useless for us to continue to see the Scudetto.

“Fiorentina and Torino are in the same range as us. It is clear that we will try to improve ourselves hoping that someone stumbles.”

He also pinpointed Juventus who despite winning only one of their first five Serie A fixtures this season, still believes they can recover and cause problems for the teams at the top of the standings.

“Even Juventus, who played badly, will be able to recover. We don’t have to look at this thing in the standings, we will look at it later.

“They have all strengthened. We have to recover a bit of humility and we have to think game after game.”

Discussing tomorrow’s match at San Siro against Inter, Gianpiero Gasperini explained that Inter are still a strong team despite the loss of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi who went to Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain respectively.

“Tomorrow we are going to face a strong team, despite the players lost.”
