Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that Inter face serious competition at the top of Serie A from top-quality rivals.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the journalist suggested that this year’s Serie A could be very competitive at the top end of the table, naming three particular teams in addition to Inter as the strongest in the league right now.
Last season Inter won the Scudetto in emphatic fashion, finishing twelve points clear of their closest rivals in the table, but already this campaign things look to be less straightforward in the Italian top flight.
The Nerazzurri sit four points behind leaders Napoli, and two behind city rivals AC Milan, while a number of teams look to have given strong early indicators at only a few points back.
For example, Inter’s match against Atalanta last weekend already suggests that La Dea are a strong team once again, with little to split the teams after a frenetic encounter.
“I see four teams as the strongest,” Marani stated, “one is Napoli, then there’s Inter, who must still be respected as reigning Italian champions. Then I put Milan, who seem to me the fastest growing of all, but also Atalanta.”
He went on, “Unlike last year, where there were two stronger teams like the Conte’s Inter and Juventus, who however failed to express themselves, I see more balance this time.”
