Inter-linked Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is focused on helping his club win trophies right now, but he is aware of the interest of major European clubs in his signature and would be ready to make the step up.
This according to his agent Edgardo Lasalvia, who spoke to Italian news outlet FCInterNews and gave updates on the 22-year-old attacker’s situation.
Nunez caught the eye of many observers with a brace in Benfica’s 3-0 defeat of Barcelona in Lisbon, and it has been reported that a number of top clubs are interested in bringing him in.
The Nerazzurri are among the clubs reported to have the strongest interest in the Uruguayan’s signature, although for now this interest has not taken the form of anything concrete.
For now, Nunez is fully committed to showing his talents with Benfica, but his agent does not rule out a move to another club in Europe in the future.
“He is very happy and enjoying the moment, but keeping his feet on the ground and always trying to improve,” Lasalvia explained.
He went on, “Various top-level teams have contacted us, but for the moment the head is with continuing and growing with Benfica and with the Uruguayan national team – this is how important things will come about.”
Regarding comparisons between Nunez and former Napoli and PSG and current Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani he stated, “They have a lot of things in common. We are convinced that Darwin is destined for great things.”
And on Nunez’s readiness to play for a team like Inter he stated, “Darwin is ready to play for any top team in the world.”
“The important thing is that he is happy now and wants to repay the trust of Benfica and the affection of the fans by winning a title,” Lasalvia concluded.
“We will discuss the possibilities of a transfer with the club directors, as it should be. For the moment we are calm and happy to see him on the pitch.”
