Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has barely relied on his rotation options in defense during the first phase of this season, with the likes of Aleksandar Kolarov, Danilo D’Ambrosio, and Andrea Ranocchia receiving only 77 minutes between them in Serie A so far.

This is highlighted by Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in today’s print edition, where the playing time of the trio is contrasted to the start of last season under Antonio Conte.

At the beginning of last season, injuries and COVID-related absences saw many key players miss a number of matches for Inter, including the absences of first-choice defenders.

As a result, head coach Conte had to rely on his backups to a high degree, with Kolarov seeing 460 minutes of action, D’Ambrosio 529, and Ranocchia clocking in at 180 minutes on the pitch after seven Serie A fixtures.

This season by contrast, Kolarov has received 16 minutes and Ranocchia 23, both against Bologna when the scoreline was already 6-0, while D’ambrosio’s minutes from the bench have totalled 38 so far.
