Inter are interested in bringing in Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne on a free transfer next summer when his contract runs out, but will face competition from Manchester United for his signature.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 30-year-old is still far from agreeing on a new deal with his current club and could be available for a free agent, and that the Red Devils have joined the chase for his signature with Inter the other club most strongly interested.

Insigne’s current contract with the Partenopei is set to run out at the end of June 2022, and he and his club are far away from an agreement on an extension.

The player’s agent has requested wages of €7 million net per season including add-ons, while the Partenopei have come nowhere near this amount.

Given the distance between the player and his current club in negotiations it looks increasingly likely that he will be on his way from the club next summer.

Should Insigne leave Napoli, the Nerazzurri are set to renew their interest in him from the summer when they ultimately decided not to sign him for a fee, but Manchester United will also join them in their pursuit.
