Inter had coach Simone Inzaghi knows that his team will have to get a result against Sheriff tomorrow, and that a win is the only thing that can keep them from slipping closer to elimination from the group stage of the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the coach spoke about his players’ motivation to be at their best in the Champions League clash following a disappointing loss to Lazio in Serie A over the weekend.

Inter’s unbeaten start to the Serie A season came to an end at the Stadio Olimpico as they let an early lead slip away and were beaten 3-1 by the Biancocelesti.

Inzaghi admitted that he and his players are unhappy after the result, and indicated that they will look for redemption when they face Sheriff tomorrow.

He knows that the match is virtually must-win as far as the Nerazzurri’s Champions League hopes go, and he expects his team to treat it as being of major importance.

“Tomorrow is a very important match,” he stated, “we are in third in the group and we haven’t won yet. The opponent has maximum points – we will have to be good at playing our game and win it to put knockout round qualification up for grabs.”

He went on, “We are all very angry because of what happened on Saturday because in my opinion we handled the first sixty minutes excellently against a strong team, with good play from the back and up top. I’m happy because I know I’m dealing with winners.”

“Today I will have to evaluate,” the coach stated, “we are 36 hours past Lazio and we will have training today and then the finishing touches tomorrow morning. There will be some changes, I must also see how the players have recovered since Saturday.”

“It will be a match of running, aggression and determination,” he predicted. “They did not win two games by luck, so we will have to be good. They are a compact and aggressive team – we will have to be good at controlling the pitch well.”

When pointed out that the Nerazzurri have not scored in the Champions League for a year, Inzaghi stated that “It’s been a long time, but we are the best attack in Serie A and we create a lot.

“Tomorrow we have to be focused and intense for a win that is fundamental.”
