Inter stand to earn almost €10 million if they progress to the next stage of the Champions League for the first time since 2011, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Calcio e Finanza, €9.6 million will be added to the money that Inter already stand to earn merely from being in the competition in the first place.

The participation bonuses for Inter in the tournament currently add up to €15.64 million and there is also the €15.9 million from the historical ranking and the television market pool.

These figures show why teams see it as so important to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, sometimes prioritising it over winning domestic trophies.

If Inter somehow managed to still get knocked out of the group stages, as has happened at every attempt since 2011, the payout would be €6.53 million.

That would still mean an overall minimum earning of €58.37 million just for taking part in the group stage.
