Former Lazio defender Guglielmo Stendardo believes that Inter have shown their Scudetto credentials even with the loss of last season’s key man in attack Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Juventusnew24.it, the 40-year-old noted that even after selling the Belgian, the Nerazzurri have very much shown that they are up to the task of defending last season’s crown.

Lukaku led the Nerazzurri for both goals and assists last season as he played a pivotal role in the club winning their first Scudetto in eleven years.

Many questions were asked about whether Inter would be able to remain at the level they achieved last season in the 28-year-old’s absence, even with the arrivals of quality forwards in the form of Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa.

The team have gone some way towards answering these questions on the pitch, however, with Simone Inzaghi’s men taking big steps forward in the Scudetto race even after selling the Belgian to Chelsea.

Stendardo gave his thoughts on the Serie A title race, stating that “For the Scudetto race I see Napoli, Milan and Inter competing for it. Napoli are doing very well, Milan have managed to maintain high levels of performance despite dealing with many injuries.”

And on the Nerazzurri he stated that “Inter have proved that they are a strong team even after having been left by a top striker in the form of Lukaku.”
