Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has explained that he personally apologised to both the referee and Eder Militao after his red card against Real Madrid, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Sport Mediaset today, via FCInternews, Nicolo Barella admitted that he made a mistake when he lashed out at the Brazilian defender.

“It was a push. I made a mistake in reacting at that moment also because it was not a good gesture for all those who watched. I reacted to a provocation, I could have avoided not falling into the trap as Eder Militao could have avoided the push.”

He went on to explain that he apologised to everyone involved and he clearly considers the matter closed now in that respect.

“Anyway I apologised, I talked to him and the referee. I felt I had to apologise regardless of this, then if they like to give me just one day of disqualification I’ll be happy.”

Inter will have to wait until January to find out if the midfielder will be suspended for one game or two games. If it is two, he will miss the whole of their Round of 16 tie against whoever they are drawn against on Monday.

Speaking on one day becoming the Inter captain which many expect to happen soon, he emphasised that Samir Handanovic is the captain and he deserves it.

“Playing for Inter is always makes me proud, the captain is now Samir Handanovic and he deserves it. I’m just a guy who tries to give my best.”
