Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has said that new boss Simone Inzaghi has given the players more freedom and has reiterated the desire to win the title again, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
Speaking during an interview with La Repubblica, the Italian defender explained that he wants to defend the Scudetto at all costs and that Simone Inzaghi helps the team remember football is just a game.
“We want to defend the Scudetto on the chest at all costs, we will try always. Inzaghi has given us the freedom that allows us to remember that football is a game. Except when you lose.”
On the Champions League draw against Liverpool in February, Alessandro Bastoni said: “It will be very hard at Anfield but also beautiful.”
Alessandro Bastoni has proclaimed that Paris Saint Germain centre back Sergio Ramos is his idol and told the story about receiving his shirt last season when Sergio Ramos was still playing for Real Madrid in Spain.
“Sergio Ramos, I admire everything about him, how he is on the pitch, his personality. For my birthday he gave me his shirt and I also talked to him, even if I didn’t understand much because he spoke Spanish. But I perceived the person as well as the player. Like Materazzi.”
Both Sergio Ramos and Marco Materazzi have a reputation for being very rough defenders who receive a lot of cards. Alessandro Bastoni suggested he does not want to be exactly the same as them.
“It’s not an innate gift, you can work with it but it’s not easy. Although it remains a legend that technically good players are soft of character. I don’t want to be like that, there was a time when I got too many cards. Of course, I can grow in everything, with exceptional teammates.”
