Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has stepped up to lead the team’s attack in the absence of his strike partner from last season Romelu Lukaku.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who detail how the 24-year-old’s numbers compare well to Lukaku’s last campaign.

Martinez is Inter’s top scorer so far this season with eleven goals in Serie A, including scoring in each of his last five matches, six since the return from the November international break.

This leaves the Argentine only one goal behind Lukaku’s total at the halfway point of last season, and with the note that his strike rate is one goal every 89 minutes compared to the now-Chelsea man’s one per 112 minutes.

Martinez looks to have forged an effective partnership with summer signing Edin Dzeko and has quickly understood the tactical shift under Simone Inzaghi, making himself a big part of the reason why the team has not missed a beat in front of goal without Lukaku.
